cover the pot in petroleum jelly or vegetable oil, put it in position, fill with expanding foam, leave to cure and slide the pot out.

Thanks for the idea of the petroleum jelly, certainly easier than baking foil

And mask off the bits you're going to see before applying the foam. It gets everywhere.

Re: Timber Clad Vessel Project
As its a wet Sunday afternoon I thought I would at least dry build the timberclad surround, ever since last weekend I`ve had a niggling doubt in my mind as to whether the pot would actually fit, so I got the straps out and constructed the thing.
All is well for the pot although the handles will have to go and it at least gives me a dimension for the timber base, for the lid I was going to laminate some oak together and recess the stainless lid into it, assuming the lathes upto it.
This afternoons progress..

Looking very smart indeed!! A precision job too; not a lot of wasted space in there.
Cheers

Thanks Kev, the niggling doubt I had was due to working out the diameter / circumference of a circle then adding a little on to take account of the timber being straight.Kev888 wrote:Looking very smart indeed!! A precision job too; not a lot of wasted space in there.

Not too sure if I`m going to do both timber clads with 100ltr pots or one with a 70ltr with external cooling wrapped round it. more decisions to make.
Cheers

Re: Timber Clad Vessel Project
Looking good there, Barneey
You may have inspired me for a similar project, but will have to wait while summer i think.
Are you going to be doing some waxing/ staining/ polishing/ varnishing to get those grains coming through?
Good job, cheers

Re: Timber Clad Vessel Project
As for the finish I was going to use a simple no frills Danish Oil approach, unless anyone could convince me otherwise.
The only thing I`m a little worried about was the internal coating and the likelyhood of condensation on the outside of the pot. The pot itself being chilled with an immersion chiller unit and probadly heated via one of blackaddler aluminium mats.
As for anyone else making a similar design it was based on 24 pieces of oak each with a 7.5 degree bevell = 24 / 15 = 24. Length 600mm oak 3 x 1 1/4. I think 24 is the max amount of slats I would go for.
Ive got a load of rosewood in the garage so who knows what I might clad next time..
Cheers

Re: Timber Clad Vessel Project
It`s been slow progress on the timber clad front, spare time spent either brewing
, or messing around, trying to reinventing things
, so finally got around to cutting the rebates for the base of the structure. (perfered weapon of choice the RB). Certainly makes a nice change not dealing with "shineys"
Hope to get the basic structure of these finished over the next few months, have now got everything needed for the complete builds. If funds are still lacking by that time one of them will be going in the "For Sale" section.
A little more progress made today.

Looking very, very nice indeed. I'm really liking these wooden clad set ups that are emerging. Very rustic and traditional.
