Cooling with hose pipe ban

As I've mentioned a few times before, I use garden pond water for cooling. You have to be confident that your joints are watertight though!

The other thing is that there is nothing stopping you filling a spare FV/bucket with cold tap water then pumping that through your cooling coil. You can use as many buckets as you want without breaking the rules. Obviously, this is somewhat against the spirit of the ban but. personally, my conscience would remain fairly clear.

Nah, it's a pretty large pond, about 6000 litres. I doubt you could measure the overall temperature rise. One end probably heats up a degree or two but fish are pretty good at choosing the best place to be.

yea but fixing leaks cost money and looses profits for the shareholders,cant have that know can we?instead lets put a ban in place ,might cost a few quid but hopefully we'll recupe that by fining a few people.

I can't see cooling wort in the list...so I would suggest that cooling wort is fine....

Arguably, it's for the preparation of foodstuffs which isn't specifically covered. Unless of course your legal opinion is that of a barrister... As stated, if you're really worried, get a pump and a bucket of ice water and recirc that through your chiller. Use food grade hoses and you can keep it all for the next brew too.

Come to think of it, simply buy 25m of micro bore and plumb to your water outlet and have fixed water supply to the place you would normal run your hose. Its now not a hosepipe. Plus you can just roll it up when the ban ends....

Cooling wort, is no different from watering a garden, ie you just link it up, turn on the tap and come back later and turn it off. Therefore if they are not defining watering a garden a recreation use (and they aren't because it is seperate) , then cooling wort isn't

Attempting to use logic to clarify any form of legislation is a rookie mistake. The law is not logical. It's a mish-mash of different rules and often conflicting definitions, hence the prevalence of lawyers...
