Orlando, I was meaning needmorehops design, I have no doubt the Bag and copper manifold will work perfectly well :D
I'll probably try that before going and buying one like Dellers, at the moment I appear to be spending more on equipment than on brewing and as much as I like tinkering, I'd be nice to get a working set up I can just focus on brewing with.
I also dont have the tools or the materials to make one like dellers so i'd have to buy it

As a thought tho, any ideas (anyone) on how to attach a bit of copper pipe to a 1/2" stainless screw thread which is on the inside of my boiler?

Hi all, This is my hop filter, only takes 5 mins to set up and is easy to clean, never had any issues with it, I would probably go with the same type of filter if I ever get around to upgrading to a nice new shiny boiler (not holding my breath though)

That looks like a good design if you go for whirlpooling before run off.

This is the one I have used. Its never blocked yet even with upwards of 200g of hops.

I just pull the mesh out and rinse under the hose or tap, 2 mins and its clean.

Hi Highlander.

My copper hop filter (1.5mm drilled holes) is fine with whole hops but not good if I want to use pellets.
It would be good to have a pellet hop-filter available. (plan B)

Does yours cope with 100% pellets ?

What mesh is it?
TIA John

Highlander, i did consider your design before but I figured too much ofthe break material would get through? Thats obviously the wrong assumption I'm guessing?

I've got one of the mash/boiling bags, do you think it would work if I tied it around my copper manifold?

What cloth is it you've used orlando? I'm leaning toward the manifold route....

OK, I'm just chipping in here but if you're looking at a filter of any sort that runs around the outside edge of the copper don't bother thinking about whirlpooling. That will get all the solids ie the hops that actually form the filter bed into a nice tidy pile in the centre, well away from your filter/strainer. You may be lucky and be able to whirlpool fast enough that only clear wort reaches the outer - by then - non filtering filter. Most likely outcome is a tonne of shite, hop seeds and crudddddd getting through.

If you want a filter that fits around the outer edge, you need to let those hops settle evenly across the base or be prepared to re-circ a lot until they make their way over to the filter and begin to actually do something.

If you want to whirlpool, so far i've found that a central or slightly offest centre strainer still works best as all the hops are spun right down onto the top of it.

I go some fine mesh from the home brew shop. I would get protafloc granules from them as well, the fine control of using protafloc is part of the procedure.
