This interestes me - I need to get extraction sorted - 100L boiler in a small shed is no joke!

My boiler has a thick DIY stainless lid which I don't mind hacking apart. I have some 4inch foil ducting and a nbathroom extractor fac to connect it to.

My only difficulty is connecting the hose to the lid. I was going to cut a 3.5 inch hole in the lid and simply press the ducting against it with some strong glue, mega botch. But I would like it to not be so rough and also sometimes I can boil outside so would like to be bale to remove the duct from a fitting and use without occasionally.

The only thing I can find is too expensive. This 90' elbow off eBay.

Would like a metal shelve that's like a lid with a hole cut in it for the elbow ? Then you pull the pan out if that makes sense your doing better that me ....

Didn't someone on here add a "hop door" to their lid a while ago so the lid would be on throughout the boil. MIght be an option if you did want to do your original plan. Can't find the thread though.
Yep I had a hop door on my lids, only thing you need to be careful of is that they do get bloody hot in use.

Another thing with extract vents is you might also have to clamp the lid down in someway, easy if you have a thermo pot but a little more difficult with a single skinned vessel. I had a lot of ideas thrown my way on a previous post on JBK.

One other thing to think about is I would suggest having an elbow as close as possible to the lid and the hose if possible either facing downwards or at least a "dip" in the pipework to prevent drip back.

Finally on any 80 ltr thermo pot, I always found a 2" vent worked well with 10 to 15% boil off figures, I`ve fitted the same vent to my new 160ltr so it will be interesting to see if its still up to the job.

Any pictures Clive? The weight of the fitting seems to be holding the lid down and the size of duct seems to be helping on my trial run last night

I found on my setup with both the thermo and this the weight just lifts the edge slightly at one end, but I need to test a bit more on the current pot.
