I have borrowed a length of 15mm stainless pipe from work so I'm going to use that with some sort of compression fitting. Not sure what yet, depends what I can get cheap/free.

Haha, yeah it's a bit over engineered but it was made out of what was kicking around.

Looks like its all coming together....

See you have opted for cone union fittings to join up I would get yourself a few spare ptfe washers for em;) they fall out too easily from uncoupled fittings and every time u do em up give em 4-5 rounds of ptfe tape too as they can bind if tightened fully without the tape, especially if the washer has fallen out un noticed..

I do like the shiny round hlt stand.. but u may need something with wider legs so u can use the space below it..

Hi Fil, the legs are only tacked on as I know I was going to make changes. And yes that's a good point it is useful space I could use.

I'll source some washers as they don't have any at all.

I have put a little food lube on the threads to stop them locking up.

Thanks for you input.

Concur! I stopped mashing-in by adding grist to hot liquor twenty years ago. That's a recipe for spreading malt flour all over the place.

I mash-in using a slightly different process. I float the grist onto my false bottom by adding enough hot liquor to cover the false bottom by about 30mm, adding the grist, and then adding the remaining hot liquor. I add the hot liquor such that malt has time to absorb an addition before making another hot liquor addition (this step is critical for floury base malts such as Thomas Fawcett Pearl that want to form dough balls the minute that the grist is touched by water). Once I reach the point where the mash is saturated, I add the remaining hot liquor and stir. However, your method has the benefit of floating the entire grist.
