Have you thought about maybe adding a few more holes in the paddle?

I was at Stewarts brewery in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon doing a brew with my neighbour for his 50th, they were using a dingy paddle for stirring the malt and there were no holes in that.barneey wrote:Have you thought about maybe adding a few more holes in the paddle?

First brew yesterday HLT upto temp @1.00pm first run off at 14.50 finish @ 16.50

Had a wee problem with the copper/kettle it was not getting upto boiling temp but then eventually discovered the spark had wired the element through the safety switch so bypassed this and managed to get to boil at 19.55 finished boil at 18.55. cooling finished at 21.55 but think a larger cooler is in order ended up with douple the hot water I needed from the exchanger.
Looking forward to my first porter!

Na! biggest outlay was the pumps but there was a few quid in the control panel as well though. sheet was leftover from other jobs, bottoms were the cut outs for 500 dia manway's on a brewery I built, I only had to buy RJT seals and weld liners the male and female were cut from scrapped pipework and cleaned up most of the pipe was cleaned and repolished bends and T's. The ball valves were less than £3 each as I purchased a redundant stock I recon with only drinking a couple o pints a day I would have returned the investment on what I save from buying bottled beer within a year. If I was taking into account my time that would be a different matter now that it is finished I can now return to my other hobby building classic Ducati's !Fil wrote:We-Hay shes aliveu better start brewing loads to bring down the average cost per pint down to something less than a tenner

Plus side is I now have a shop window and possibly the basis of a brewschool for the consultant I work alongside with which in turn may bring more work. Camra in Edinburgh (pints of view mag summer issue) http://www.edinburghcamra.org.uk/publications/POV63.pdf did a full page article on the Micro breweries I have been building and featured the pilot plant as well which has started to generate some interest already.

Having trouble getting the Mypin T series controller set properly, does anyone know of the setting to stop the controller pulsing on the heating side and also on the cooling side?

Well the first 4 1/2 gallon went down a treat ,had the Pyatshaw wednesday club meeting here went to fill a couple of bottles for my mate in the morning to take with me and only managed to get two bottles out of the pin "good effort as they say here"

Re: 80ltr brew kit build
I finally managed to get the brewhouse floor drain plumbed in over the weekend, not had much spare time lately but intend on doing three brews starting September the 1st ready in time for my birthday bash. I shall be brewing a porter, Blonde and IPA having the drainage done shall save a lot of time running up and down stairs with buckets of water.

Re: 80ltr brew kit build
I had half a day of "me" time today so did a couple of mods to my HLT prior to the next brew, I fitted a 6kw element and sight tube, just switched it on with 40ltr of water and it was like watching the seconds ticking away on the controller.
