Zebra wrote:Couple of pics of progress so far, hopefully showing how I'm clamping the malt tube. I'm re using my current kettle, and have bought a new stainless stock pot to use as the malt tube. Obviously there's a lot more to do.... There will be a stand too, but it isn't built yet. I'm planning on mounting the Brauduino controller on the wall, not underneath the kettle.
I hope the pictures make sense. One shows the malt tube - perforated bottom, but mesh not attached yet. The other shows the malt tube clamped within the kettle, again, mesh not added yet. The malt tube will have a 10mm thick silicon gasket around the mesh, on the outside, bottom, of the pot. Hopefully the clamp will push the tube down enough to seal it sufficiently.

How does the MT seal on the bottom of the boiler pot?

I have some 10mm thick A4 sheets of silicon. I'll be making a gasket out of that; it'll be attached with some small bolts, it's thick enough to countersink so as to be able to keep the bolt heads within the silicon.... if you see what I mean! When I get around to doing it, I'll post some pics.

Hmm, yes, good idea. Might not be as easy to attach though.

I`ll be interested to see how you get on with the idea, as you know an original malt tube has a void underneath it, I wonder if that is by design or just circumstance?

I`m currently getting the bits together for a 50lt BM unit & for the time being will be going down the clone route unless other builds prove otherwise. BTW aamcle was thinking of using cams.

Looking good, I'm watching with interest, as I already have an Oz controller built up =D>

Just out of interest, what donor stock pot are you using and are you looking to put a secondary Y type filter in place, to protect the pump? Finally, are you going to mount this on a stand/box?

Keep up the good work .... :D
Fermenting - Nothing
Conditioning - Nothing
Drinking - Tea
Planning - Everything, if only I had the time ... !!

The donor stock pot was a "one off" eBay purchase, I was lucky to get it, as its APITA to try and find a stock pot in the diameter, none of the usual outlets sell them.

The "Y" type filter has been replaced with a tri-clover gasket (with a built in screen), also by using the tri-clover fittings I can remove the pump completely if required.

For the stand as the stock pot is 46cm (ish) and a standard 70tr stock pot is 45cm (ish), I was going to either use the 70 ltr upside down or cut the 70 in half and use that, just awaiting the 70 pot to be delivered. My donor pot has a rim around the bottom so it should be a simple bolt / rivet job.
