OK, into the testing phase! :=P

Draught strip fitted to appropriate surfaces:

Image

The cabinet in place against the fridge - there was a slight problem here - the frame isn't quite true, and there is a slight gap. I though the rubber seal would take up the space, but it hasn't quite. Current plan is to put tape round the inside of the joint between the fridge and frame to make a draught-proof seal.

Image

I put a barrel in to give it some thermal mass to make the test more realistic:

And with all covers on (the detail shows my temporary solution to the fixings -which knowing me will probably last until they drop off when the threads strip in the wood!):

Temperature before switching on:

And 20 minutes later (at which point I switched off):

Despite the slight leaks around the fridge joint (and the fact that the beer must still have been quite warm, since 5 gals of liquid couldn't cool that quick) it was only up to 13.6C when I checked it 40 minutes after switching off. 4 minutes of running later it was back below 12C.

So all I need now is my ATC800. Ebay beckons! :D

Task for tomorrow is to drill the hole for the beer line in the side panel and connect that barrel up! :pink: :pink: :pink:

Result Jim,

You got a fan in there moving that cold air around? Just one thought.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I'll be fitting a fan as well (it's not in there yet, of course, so the temperature will be uneven - the probe is at the far end of the box on top of the barrel). It'll go in the bottom of the freezer blowing out. I'll also be fitting a heating element of some kind for the winter - it can get down to 4 or 5C in that garage.

I've just bought one off ebay - I couldn't wait for an auction to end so I made a 'Best Offer' and got it for £25 + delivery

here

Great looking Cabinet Jim - lots of inspiration there! :D

You know what, Jim, you should make some kind of collar to go around the fridge. Something that will mate to the cabinet. Perhaps expanding foam in some kind of sock or something. Or even hollow fibre from pillows/bedding.

If you are still looking for fixings may i suggest thumb latches, i'm off to find a picture. I used then at home to fit a vertical panel loft area access hatch. You could holesaw the front panel, mount these internally with the thumb op knob pointing out through the hole and then sink the latches into the timber upright internally. A bit of work to do they are shiny things!

Another fixing type

While i'm here Jim, we use a sealing strip similar to the shortcut below to seal external doors offshore. its really good and compresses well to give an effective seal. I'm sure it can be bought in a lot of places and is superior to draught excluder type stuff from the diy stores. I use the 10mm deep stuff and it stays stuck on for years.

Apparently it goes down to 5C no bother - if you forget to turn it off for half an hour!

Must get that ATC800 ordered!

Ta, Vossy.

A couple more pics.

1. The beer engine connected. Obviously the run of the beer line can be improved by turning the tap on the keg the other way next time (turning to the left suited my pre-coolbox arrangement) and by finding a JG elbow to connect the check valve.

Image

2. The ATC 800 controlling the freezer.

Now I just need the heater to arrive, and make a bracket for it and the fan.
