That sounds OK. Any dissadvantage to reaching boiling point taking a long time? Or is it just that it is time spent waiting?

And if you turn the boiler element on as soon as the element is covered with wort then I'd imagine you'd be close to boiling by the time sparging completes.

It's still there, I've just ordered one.

My plan is to brew kits for a while to learn the basics (which everyone on here is helping with immensly) and then get onto extract brewing and using specialty grains when I've got the equipment togeather. This is a great start on the equipment front and also means I'll be able to brew in the garage rather than the kitchen which will please my wife no end.

Thanks

That's fine itmustbedrunk. Would you like one from my first batch or would you prefer that I get some more practice first? If you go to the extract brewing forum and look at my Tea thread you might be put off a bit!

Thanks all

Got mine this morning and it looks fine. All I need now is a cooler and a hop strainer and I'll progress to extract brewing.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Alternatively you could use hop bags and cool the wort in the sink, as I used to do, and get started immediately  :P

I want to get onto extract or even AG as soon as I can because I want to be able to experiment and try lots of different ingredients (I may try a few mini mash ones for the real experiments) and they're meant to be nicer. However I'm going to do a couple more kits just to gain more confidence with the basics and to make sure that my first attempts aren't failures when I pour them out of the bottle.

In the mean time I've asked for a hop strainer for Christmas (instead of socks) and I think I'm going to have a go at making an imersion cooler myself; hey, how difficult can it be to bend copper?

Get 10mm copper and bend it round something the size of a corny keg or fire extinguisher it's quite easy. Be carefully if you are doing tighter curves free hand.

Andy wrote:Just ordered one of these - it's got a tad more volume than my Bronco boiler and as EB mentioned if I fire it up when the first sparge output is collected then the boil should be underway when the boiler is full. I guess I could lag it also to retain some heat and help things along.

I've got a Tchibo voucher code giving free P&P if anyone else is interested.
Andy,

Do you still have this voucher code please?

Thanks

Sorry - it expired.

If you do some googling for Tchibo voucher or similar you may find another discount code.....
