Alix, it really isnt that limited. The biggest thing is cost. At our level there really isn't much demand for a pump with such high specifications as any micro isn't going to bother with something this small. The guy at one of my locals told me he doesn't rate any of the march may's because the fitting/front housing is plastic and it feels a bit flimsy when you really try to get some purchase. He uses a solid stainless thing thats well up to the job (non mag drive) and boasts huge flow rates (by our standard) but musta been a few bob. These pumps are a fantastic find however and I feel a 1/2" one on the cards pretty damn soon. I has the same questions as steve about the hose clip/threaded fittings. If you can get hose clips I'm well happy, though I personally plan to run it "after" the heat exchanger so I won't bother with the 100c version unless its ready before I get round to ordering.

There are only a few pumps about (at homebrewing-type £levels) that can take boiling wort, but if you're happy to sanitise chemically (or for longer periods at around 80-85c) there is much more choice and generally less cost.

Maybe in a commercial setting I'd want a stainless head, but if you need to choose between them (and sadly it seems you generally are forced to) then for me the magnetic drive is more worthwhile - the majority of homebrew pumps (including this kaixin, MMP3, sp20/12, solar pumps etc) have plastic heads and are completely fine (though the teeny little solar pumps are of course much more delicate).

I've actually got one of the march 815 'PL' pumps now - it has a high quality polysulphil head and is plenty robust enough (though I wouldn't want to drop it onto the head from a height). People do seem to have a tendency to over-rate them and they're probably too expensive, its just a pump after all, but I have so far failed to find a better suited one for homebrewing or a comparable one for notably £less - which is why this thread is of particular interest.

Cheers
Kev

I should of said for home brewing...I've got a march 809 and its well over priced, the thing isn't even water proof  but its the best option availible, and they know it because as soon as they realised home brewers could use them the price shot up...id love to see a cheaper option thats easier to get hold of....

Been chatting to ol' Jack in China for a week or so since seeing this thread and he has been very prompt with replys and I have nearly worked it out. Handy to have more contact details too.

Last email from him was as follows (some serious grammar correction necessary!) gives a good update for those interested:

Dear Dean,

Thank you for your mail about MP-15RM new model, our retail price is will be £20.58 if 10 pieces or for 20 pieces the retail price is 19.88, the freight cost (DHL - we have a discount by air) is below:

1 unit £25.3
2 units £38.75
10 units £138.8
20 units £247.8

I am sorry we don't have the new model pump ready yet. It will be finished before the 25th of this month.

We can make 100c pumps in MP-20RM or 30RM and more. That just depends on whether we get an order from my wholesaler, as we now we have an order for the 100c MP-15RM, we will have redundant quantity for retail. If we have the redundant quantity, I will put on information in my Ali Express shop, and I will let you know.

It is very strange too many people that from you country,New Zealand and Australia ask me for this new pump, they booked one pics , two pics , 10pics and so on, now I need make a new schedule for MP-15RM.

Best regards

Jack

Looks like we need to make an order for ten pumps. I'll buy two. The only problem then is paying delivery to shop them around the UK.

I imagine there'd be import duty as well as going through DHL

If ten pieces are ordered that comes to £34.46 per pump. Plus potential import duty (not sure what that will be as they assume tax is charged the same as on a UK similar model. Then to ship each item around the UK to each person (not sure how much they weigh?).

Or am I reading this wrong and I can just buy two on my own for less?

$117 US coverted to Euros (I'm in France) whatever that workls out at about 5 days ago. Pumps shipped today by UPS for the same price as the recommended cheapo China Post. The owner got in touch with me and asked if it was ok to use UPS as they were faster, ay no extra cost. He seems to be a good lad!

I think when you go through a courier like DHL or UPS they tend to include the import duty upfront. I might be wrong though.

I emailed Jack too and he said that he is planning a run of 400 high temperature pumps some of which are already ear marked for an Australian supplier and he has had emails from Australia, New Zealand and the UK expressing interest in buying the the extras which he will sell through his Ali store.

There may not be many of these to be had.
