1. The central metal pillar was there to provide a screw in port for the base cover - this HAD to be removed to make way for the central rod - which is again 3/8 diameter - so a thread can be cut with the equipment I have / BES fittings can be used with it. A long bolt will be made to secure the bottom cover and will screw into the new central fitting.
2. Don't know yet - anyone any ideas - haven't got that far.

So when in recirc mode you're pumping wort from the "hop filter" outlet and in through the base tap, which flows into the grain tube via the silicone hose shown and the 90 degree elbows. The grain is stopped from overflowing the tube via the top plate but wort is free to overflow the tube and run back down into the void, where it is pumped back into the tube again via the same process.

Correct ?

a thermostat probe (long, cigar type) bolted to the base and also a diamond shaped unit (bolted, adjacent to the central pillar). Is the cigar probe the main 'stat probe with the diamond unit a failsafe/cutout
The cigar probe is indeed the stat probe,it works on thermal expansion and contraction,no electrikery involved and the diamond thingy is a thermal switch, looks like a resettable type, gets to hot it opens and cut the power to the boiler, once its cooled down it resets its self

A little bit more progress to day, I`ve converted the lid to a steam vent / funnel for the malt.

My new 24volt pump + Silicone Hose has just arrived courtesy of Mark aka MrLard (a very big thank you for the items :) )

The new internal tube should be with me Friday.

So the initial testing can commence very soon :)

I'm liking the look of it. I'd be tempted by a Barnmeister. Do you know what you expect your final outlay to have been?

I spy with my little eye something beginning with R on the rim of that mesh filter [-X . Or do my eyes (camera) deceive me? Or, is it a marker pen used to describe the cutting circle  .

Will the filter have a little bit of tubing to give it a snug fit or is that not necessary?

Looks like marks from the cutting process, or it is pen... Can't be rust.... with a spares kit like barneeys you can almost guarantee its stainless.

Think you may inspire a group buy of materials to copy your design here barneey,
what is the grain tube in the end? is it a bit of chopped up corny with its edges worked? I cant wait for the spec sheet for this one.

ps thought i saw red too,, must be post cutting??

The "R" referred to is I would expect laser burn (as I believe the disk has been cut with a laser) I have some pickling paste so it wont take much to remove it (everything is stainless).

As for the tube and discs they were made by a well know (yet new member to JBK) I`ll let him come forward should he wish to.

I will work on a spec sheet of parts used, cost wise its looking at about £300.00 all in.

As for construction if you can cut a hole in stainless and use a few simple tools there isn't much to it.

Next step (not for me) is to either follow Matho pcb deign for his version or use a simple Sestos PID and timer BS3 would work very well to introduce a little automation.

Still need to see who this works + still need to brew with an "original" version to see how they compare.

The first test will be to plumb everything in, test for leaks, add 5kg of grain and see what happens.

Thats not bad at all actually! considering that you have 2 false bottoms in there aswell as a pump and a custom made grain tube.
