Cool Box construction
Have to agree, it's a great way to extend the size of your fridge for a reasonable cost.
Jim, just out of interest, any idea how much the box cost to put together? (i.e. wood, sealing, brackets & insulation).
I have an ATC controlled fridge but it only fits two corni kegs & a few bottles in - would love to be able to condition a few crates of bottles too.

Actually, it wasn't all that cheap.jonnyv wrote:Have to agree, it's a great way to extend the size of your fridge for a reasonable cost.

It still looks the businessJim wrote:Actually, it wasn't all that cheap.I reckon I've spent about £150 all in (including the ATC800, heater, fan etc) and I got the freezer for nothing.

Maybe I'll just try to get another freecycle'd fridge. That would put my refridgeration unit count up to four tho - which SWMBO might not be too happy about.
Nope, you're not going blind, I neglected to mention it. This is the one.Vossy1 wrote:Jim, what heater did you go for?
I've had a read through the thread but must be blind
I'll post pics when I get it fitted.
EDIT: Link changed - that must have been the actual one I bought, because it worked when I posted it, then disappeared later.

Great job Jim - you've inspired me to have a go at this (as I intended to a long while back). I did toy with just getting a chest freezer, but as it would need to have a collar fitted anyway, and since I love to make wooden boxes, I'm going to go with the fridge extension idea.
Where did you get the Kingspan board from? Also, does your box just push up to the freezer, relying on the slight suction to create seal?

Hi, BB - go for it, it's great fun.

Yes, the box is just pushed up to the freezer. There's not really any suction holding it there, since as soon as you open one of the covers on the box that's gone. It's worth being very careful to get the frame spot on square, as otherwise you have a slight gap at the mating surface (we're just talking mms here) - I had to tape my joint up from the inside.
