Can't you achieve the same effect as this whirlpool chiller just by stirring with a IC in place?

Yes....depends it you want to stir for twenty minutes though. Also you need to take the lid off to stir. You could fashion a lid that means you don't have to take it off with this.

He says 140F not 40. His maths is out a bit as 140F is not 38C...it's nearer 60C. Still only half way to pitching temp. Impressive for three minutes though...

It takes a fair bit longer to actually get to pitching so you're going to be stirring a bit longer. He hasn't got a lid on in the picture but if you buy a kettle from morebeer the notch it to fit with the IC in place. It's not a majot task to cut a bit more out with tin snips.
