You couldn't afford it, mate

I'd recommend you make some kind of plan of what you want to make while you're waiting for the bits to arrive. If you want them sanity checked just ask. :D

Funilly enough, sitting before me on my desk are the technical drawings, sorry, scribblings, of a mad man.

Now the fun begins

I thought, I'll just have a quick look on the RS website for thermocouple's, there can't be that many...can there :?

only 1086 of them

Found the ssr though 8)

Vos your a brave man :) . I hope to use a washing machine/ dishwasher pump to recirc the wort (a la Pensans brewery http://www.chezwallis.com/pensans/) They are food & hot water safe, got mine for ~ £12.50 new on ebay & hope to use some rubber hozelock fittings over the ends.

Good luck with the system - I also just ordered a pair of PID's on ebay & a couple of 2nd hand SSR's, hoping to use a burco boiler as the HLT/ Heat exchanger with a reel of 8mm copper pipe - although apparently it's not ideal as the vol' of water is so large.
It may be of interest to you - I saw seveneers 15mm-1/2" hose tail JG fittings went to buy some and found one of these speedfit taps too - ideal for regulating the outflow from the pump -

Ditto, it's better than not having enough though :D

Frothy, that pump looks the business.

I take it it's magnetically coupled, so controlling the output via the quick fit tap wont damage it :?:

I recently got RS 237-1663 from Ebay - stainless pt100 probe. Would this be suitable for the PID setup ?

jah it is magnetically coupled. The ends are a little awkward in size
hopefully the rubber hoselock fittings (one large & one smaller) won't affect the wort

Excellent 8)

Does yours have it's standard flow rate stamped on it frothy :?:

I've just been into the plumbers merchants and they stock the speed fit taps also 8)

Unfortunately no flow rate indicated on the side. fingers crossed the tap looks just the job.

Hi Matt, I've just ordered one of the pumps and I picked up the tap you've got.
It doesn't really matter about the flow rate as restricting won't adversley affect a magnetically coupled pump, but you know that anyway 8)

Thanks for pointing me in the pumps direction, it's a lot cheaper than the alternatives =D>

Ps, the seller has just advised me that the inlet and outlet are 22 and 29 mm, not sure what this is imperial :?

Hi DaaB, I've found a 22mm-15mm speedfit reducer no problem but the 29mm is proving to be difficult :?

Never mind difficult it's impossible to find a 29mm-15mm reducer.

Daab, I've just spoken to the pump seller. The 29mm end, has an adapter which the threaded washing machine/dishwasher outlet pipe screws into.
That's why it's an odd size :?

If you get stuck Frothy for an adapter let me know as I have a solution.

We use something in fishing called shrink tube. It's also used as labels on food jars, electronics and electrics. If you haven't heard of it b4, here goes.

It's pvc based and comes in various sizes. Basically the tube comes in say a 30mm size. When you apply steam to it, it shrinks to a predetermined smaller size, ie, 15mm. It is flexible before steaming and rigid after
