:D If I had known what direction 2 years ago this was heading I would have gone for the largest set up then, I`m still deciding whether to go for an 80 thermo pot for the HLT (as I had before just layed out differently) or go for a 100ltr Oak clad effort to give me that little bit extra capacity.

The limit now is the bergland pot sizes :D was quite lucky to get the 150ltr pot the other day for the boiler.

Nice to see it on the bamboo flooring too - wonder how that would work as cladding...

Cheers :D Believe me I thought about, infact I had a room worth of flooring left over not so long ago but thought that Oak would be a nicer finish.

I`ve even looked into getting store damaged packs of flooring to cladd pots etc in :D as a cheaper way of getting the basic timber.

Well I guess I must be lucky, just started converting the new 80ltr thermo to a centre drain HLT and the insulation although thinner is still enough for the fully concealed method :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M8-8mm-x-80mm ... 0636843943?

Just get them in the same diameter that you will use for the upstand bolts, thereby all the fittings , drilling holes etc will be universal

There is lots of useful stuff in the boat bit of ebay :)

Hi barneey,

Cheers for posting your conversion method. I'll be following this almost exactly for my 50L thermopot, although I only have 29mm of insulation so I expect it to be a tight fit.

I have a question for you though: How is the pipe secured to the outside of the pot at the tap end? Some sort of bulkhead or is it just loose in the cut hole? I can't see anything in your image below.

With a 21mm hole its quite a tight fit, so its just cut hole. Its then up to you should you want an additional washer and nut on the out side or straight to the ball valve.

Cheers

Ah, that's straight forward, then! Cheers barneey!

Did you happen to consider using the 1/2" deck drain rather than the skin fitting, perhaps recessed in the floor?

EDIT Just had a chat with the vendors of these deck drains. Very helpful chaps actually. The problem is that the flange is dished on the bottom as well as the top, so getting a seal would be tricky. There's also 3mm of gap between the flange and the washer which is quite a big gap to bridge. Better stick to the skin fittings.

Never seen those, which would look more ideal due to the flange being thinner = less dead space but with an off centre tip-able pot I doubt if it would make much difference.
