Wouldn't worry about the water side mate. as long as the beer side is clear it doesn't matter. You have to think aswell that the heat running through it during the recirculation will kill just about anything trying to grow or atleast weaken it to the point it gets flushed out.if worried you could even put a PBW mix through it using a pump, that'd work nicely!

Still no tube so phoned em and they needed me to email em so they can respond hmmm... well its been pretty plain sailing so far a few hiccups should be expected, id rather suffer a delay than a total failure, tho thats still a possibility ;)

I measured up for steves idea of looping to alternate rather than sequential beer tubes, but will need closer to 4m for that and i only got 2m :) and i dont have enough sytphon tube to make up the difference, forgetting the fact chopping up the 2m of tube i have will stop me using it to feed to and from the apparatus.

anyone with links to thick walled 3/8" id silicone tube?? only found it available on Aussie brewsites.

The Home Brew Shop does various sizes of thick-walled silicone tube including:

9.5mm id X 14.8mm od
6.3mm id X 11.1mm od

Both of these fit onto a 10mm pipe, and can be made to curve quite tightly before kinking. They could connect a pair of parallel pipes at a minimum of 6cm (EDIT: More like 8cm) centres. (At room temperature anyway.) If I were building one of these CFCs I'd go for the smaller size tube, for a tighter fit.

Nice one Hogarth.. just the ticket, and the info i need , as 6cm gives me wriggle room to boot CHEERS!!

while i take the point on the thinner tube gripping better, i am using thin walled ss tube thats quite sharp edged, one end munched its way thru core-ing 24 hard rubber bungs in a few hours... and with the 8mm id 1mm walled tube I sliced up a couple of 8mm id 1mm walled tubes attempting to fit on.

if any one wants rubber bung cores circa 9.5mm od with a circa 3mm inner bore hole pm me they are yours for the cost of a stamp..

i got confirmation my 2mm wall tube was dispatched late friday so fingers crossed for tomorrows post...
but its good to know there is a backup just in case..

Ah good. Hope it works out for you.

Just realised my 6cm figure was a bit optimistic. You can get a kink-free curve at that diameter, but if you kink it artificially, it stays kinked. At 8cm it unkinks itself, so that's probably more realistic.

a meter and a half of old twin n earth ring mains cable neutral wire twisted round a 10mm tube ;)
and the thin walled tube bends within 6cm no kink.. in me hand, foot control was less precise ;)

thing is i dont have 16 odd meters of the stuff ...

i recently recycled a load of antique bnc terminated network coax with a nice solid copper core too ha...

Dashed back here, checked out the hose..

Its a goer ! but i under ordered ha so has to employ the coil encased thin tube for the last connection....
hlt and pump was ready to go so i flipped the switches, plumbed up the silicone tube. stood back realised id not done it the right way so some of the flows were backward .. made a cupps.. sat down lit a puff and was disturbed by the makeshift hlt lid with a boil ;)

SO.......

SUCCESS!!!!

i had a flowcontrol valve inline prior to the chiller and that let in air.. bad seal but u could hear that hissing :( but with a restricted flow 95c to 25c :) without restriction 32C @ 4Lpm..

i measured the hlt temp at 95 as an afterthought just to make sure it was hot.

It seems it may even have promise as a straight to fermentor chiller rather than the planned re circulation chiller :) hehe a happy start to the w/snd, now to clear up....

Sounds like a decent rate of cooling. What temperature was the cooling water?
