Barneey, reckon with a little bit of work you could make both of those work.

Got my 3 way valves for the mash tun.
Allows me to swap the input between the HLT or the RIM's and the output between the RIMS and the copper.

also nearly finished on the plumbing on the RIMS heater. Just got my control box to make now.

Did you put anymore thought into plumbing it in the other way that you had first thought about, the HLT water going through the HERMS?

I did think about it. But i woulod need ano.ther 3 way valve on the outlet of the HLT.
Might think about it for the future though. This way the only thing hose I need to change is the outlet from the recirc on the hlt to the top of the mash tun.
I will need a new solar pump though. Will be fine to have a spare!!!

Got the PID controller wired up. gave it a quick test and will try it in a water test later this week
I'm a little worried that everything is a little close and might suffer from noise on the sensor lines. will have to see when It goes live

Here's a couple of quick photo phone pics

Good looking box and build mate.

Just enough room to fit everything in ;)

Thanks guys.
Tested it last night with 30L of water and it works great. Only took about 10mins to autotune.
The main test for me was that it would be fail safe. So if the pump fails or blocks, then because the sensor is directly above the heater it cuts off within a min or so.
Getting my first RIMS brew on this weekend.

Build seems to be going well mate. Quick question, what float valve did you use for your mash tun? After some near overflows i'm thinking it might just be a good idea!
Cheers

been trialing my new shiny trub filter today
Image

Comes with .5 mm holes i've fitted the 0.2mm screen as well.
Image

Plumbed into the plate chiller, one camlok for cleaning.
Image

Saddly I have a leak at one of the welds. Goin to have to see if I can weld/solder that up. Pretty annoying.
Image

Picked up a lot of bits, that would otherwise be in the plate chiller.
Image

Overall happy with it. Its easy to open and clean and with 300g of hops it didn't choke at all.

Looking good, no blockages in the pipework leading to the filter?

no, i've got the memory tube ring filter in the boler, so no big bits tend to get though, its just the seeds and the small stuff.
bit annoyed about the leak in the weld though. Going to get on to them, but if not i'll need to source a new triclamp fitting.
