why are you trying to drop the temp in your FV to these low temp??

i dont get it. after reading on here at keeping your FV at around 20-23 degrees for fermntation purposes why intentionally drop it that low...

To get the yeast etc to drop out at the end of fermentation. The main fermentation is done at 20C or 10C as applicable.

It's gotta be set lower than that . :D
Yes you are right of course Steve, I was being a bit inaccurate. I just measured the temp of water in the water tank on my beer cooler (been running for about an hour) and its 3C. Point is though it is higher than freezing point, though this might change in "cold" pockets if the stirrer or pump isn't running.

The inlet and outlets can be joined together with JG fittings and a short length of 3/8. as suggested, my beer cooler is set up this way.

I agree with you I've had a lager fermenting all this week (ambient temp 20C) lager temp 11-15C. The fermenter is one of the Nordic optical 50l thermo boxes and I have only ever caught the cooler in operation once all week. I reckon it is probably ON once or perhaps twice in 24 hours; cools the wort down to 11 and it takes it all day to go up to 15 again.
