Mash Tun Upgrade

Hello hear are some pic's of my upgraded mash tun that i insulated with 2 parts liquid foam & a pine surround The piece of blocked of copper is for my PTC probe from my controller.

I have only tested with water at 66 degrees & it dropped 1 degree after 80 minutes in frosty weather.I think when i mash it will be even better as the mash helps insulate itself. Cheers

Hello Frothy i heat my mash water to strike temperature in my mash tun. I think i will start setting it before i go to bed then first thing in the morning i can mash.I lengthened the cable on one of my fermentation controllers so it reaches my mash tun also. Should be able to mash 40 kg of grain.so i should be able to make barley wine strength ales too with this setup. Cheers

When you come back from an offshore stint do you spend all the time at home drinking ? That's a lot of beer to consume

Not all the time Andy i am trying to make a very easy setup so i can brew less often.And have more time for my beer to mature before drinking. And also keeping numerous boosing budies happy

Hello as i mentioned in my last post i would like to set my mash tun to heat during the night so it's at the correct temperature in the morning. But my temperature controller is not capable of handling the load to my kettle element.So i was thinking about wiring a voltage regulator i have already for my RG550 pump to a socket .Then i can plug in the pump or controller powering my mash kettle element.I would plug the controller in at a reduced power setting.Would the controller & element still work.Hear is a pic of the voltage regulator.

Good you mentioned that Daab i was round at my fathers house today and he said the council are replacing there central heating. I think i will get him to keep the central heating cylinder as it has a stat fitted.It's getting replaced with a combi boiler. Cheers
