CO2 regulator - suitability

Post by danielski » Thu Jan 04, 2007 1:17 pm

Hiya.

Whenever I connect my current regulator to the CO2 bottle there's a quiet hiss coming from the regulator which suggests to me its leaking. Rather than end up with an empty bottle by the morning I'd rather replace the regulator and be able to have it permanently hooked up for forced carbonation etc.

Thing is I know very little about the whole CO2 thing so could someone advise me as to which of these would be most suitable...

You don't need the main cylinder open all the time to force carbonate. Just pressurising the cornie to a suitable psi and leaving alone will do the job.

Regarding the regs. I don't think any of those would be suitable as none of them show the psi of the "out" connector. They show flow rate (useful in welding) which isn't any good for pressurising kegs.

I'm sure others will have some good links to suitable gauges.

Edit: OOps, didn't see the one DaaB mentioned  8)

Thanks Daab, that's the one I'll go for unless I can find a machine mart that's near enough to me.

I didn't realise that, good tip 8)

I seem to remember that I hear the leak when the regulator is attached, no matter if its set to 'open' or not, which means having to keep taking it on & off for serving each and every pint is a bit of a faff.
