Leaking boiler HELP!
Gents!
I åm soon finished with my mango style boiler. Both elements are in and there are no leaks around these.
.
I have fitted a ball value but this is placed slightly too low and on a slight curve making it leak a little. Not a lot but enough to puddle around the boiler after an hour. I have tried o rings and wonder if ties is any kind of mastic i can use outsid in order to seal it? Anything else i can use? Remember i an in norway so might not have access to the same stuff as in the UK
I imagine that i need some kind of silicone washers of even some form of heat ressistant mastic that i can put behind the locking nuts in order to seal it. I am sure it will work fine if i get it tight.
Any help?.

Google "silicone baking tray".
Some people here seem to have used these or the silicone molds for muffins. You'll need to make a template and cut them to shape.

However the way of life , the money and the lovely looking ladies ( and scenery) make it worth it.
Its just everything is so damn expensive.
i'l be popping into one of the local shops dealing with car supplies when i get chance. Might just do the job.
As lonmg as it seals it and does not make the beer suffer i'm in.
I'll be looking on flea bay for a boiler too though
Thanks
Re: Leaking boiler HELP!
You could try PTFE tape if you can get a hold of it. It worked for my leaking taps viewtopic.php?f=6&t=26942.

The tape i can get but the problem does not appear to be the fit of the thread. It appears to be the fit of the washer against the slightly curved sides of the boiler barrel.harry_mac wrote:You could try PTFE tape if you can get a hold of it. It worked for my leaking taps viewtopic.php?f=6&t=26942.
i'll be getting some sealant they vehicle universal sealant and tighten the tap onto that ( like a glue really) then let it cure and fill with warm water. hopefully SWMBo will bugger off out of the huse for a couple of hours so i can give it a triel run too.
I just wait in anticipaton for my hop stopper, then when all is done i can get on with brewing with my own equipment and delivering the other guys stuff back!
Re: Leaking boiler HELP!
It sounds like the same problem I had then. Honestly I'd give it a go - although the tape goes around the thread, it appears it works its way into other areas as you tighten to give a good seal. PTFE has the advantage in that it's cheap enough that you can disassemble the tap for a good clean every few boils, and put new tape on.Deebee wrote:The tape i can get but the problem does not appear to be the fit of the thread. Re: Leaking boiler HELP!
Take a 3 foot length of PTFE tape and fold it into three then twist it between finger and thumb so that it forms a rope . . . wind that around the thread and then fit the washer and back nut and tighten it up . . . hey presto Instant PTFE Washer
