Sounds as though the tube has come away from the back of the tap thingy. Try sanitising your hand and then open up the keg and re-connect the float/tube assembly. Don't forget to release the pressure before opening the lid.

If the float is a rectangular white plastic thing with the pickup pipe going through it weighed down with a thick steel ring over the end of the pipe......then it's upside down in the beer, with the pickup pipe facing upwards into the headspace rather than down into the beer.

Sterilise some marigolds (outside only ;) ) crack open the cap, put on the gloves, turn the float over. If it resists then pull the pipe off the drum tap and re-position it orientated so the float naturally rests the right way up, ie pipe down into the beer. Put the cap back on, pressure up with Co2, wait a few minutes, then gently open the cap until the gas escapes. That purges the air out of the headspace. Re-seal, and re-pressure. Normal service resumes.

If it's the other sort of float..it shouldn't happen unless the pipe has seperated from the float, in which case, repeat the method above except that you just refit the pipe to the float.

Good luck

Yep, could be that..it's either one of the two! Sanitising the gloves is kinder to your hands, and a bit more sanitary, because once you open your keg with your sanitary hand...you could pick up a bug off the cap and straightaway become 'unsanitary'. With the gloves, you open the cap, then put the gloves on avoiding touching the business end. No infection possible.

If the beer level is above the tap, then it's as I described, because if the pipe had come off the tap, then you'd still get beer for a while. If the level is below the tap, it could be either cause.

Now every thing looked ok when i opened up the keg, so i checked the float and back of tap pipe. refitted keg top and regassed ..let out some then gassed again.
And its still not right  It sort of spurts abit then gasses a bit... I think it may be the seal on the back of then tap? any thoughts?

Got it! It's the o-ring in the beer pipe connector, where it pushes into the back of the tap, inside the barrel. It might have dislodged, particularly if it's a tight fit. It happened to me a while back (6 years ago at least) Still, I should have remembered. Check that.

Result!!!
I sat in the pub with my mate and had couple of black sheep then decided it had to be the seal at the back of the tap. I had got a spare float set so I sanitised the marigolds and spare float set and opened the keg again and removed the old float and tap connector.... sure enough the rear of tap 'o' ring had not seated properly and was 'pinched' so I fitted the spare sanitised float set and tap connector, properly this time, regassed etc... and :D result beer now flows properly, no spluttering. Must remember to add that to the list of pre barreling checks!!
nice brew this one too, fixby gold with honey to prime and it is just lovely mmmm

:) Well, in the end, the problem was solved. That's the main thing. Don't forget to purge the air out before settling down for a drinky
