Dremel type tool

Post by Immy's Dad » Mon Feb 19, 2007 2:16 pm

Looking to purchase a dremel type tool. Has anyone got any suggestions as to which one and where I might get it.

As usual, cheap and cheerful work best for me!

Thanks guys. :)

I have been using dremels for years. They're a lot better than any of the third party knockoffs, so go dremel if you can. They do a 2 speed model which is perfectly adequate for 90% of applications if you're careful.

I know they're a bit more expensive than your Draper or lidl cheapo brand, but they're solidly built, the bits are excellent quality, and they have a warranty that you can actually claim on.

B and Q occasionally have the 2 speed model on sale. I got mine for 15 quid!

This may sound cheap but hey i didn't fancy buying a dremel or a clone. I just got the attachment which dremels use and then insterted it into my normal drill and it works fine. Done me ok since the attachment was only about 50p.

Problem is the dremel, and any other rotary tool, bits are designed for low torque and high rpms. Dremels rotate at 44k rpms. Drills are the opposite, with high torque and low rpm.

It won't be a problem with fibre cutting discs for stainless, but for any of the fine tools you're going to have prombles. ;)

I bought one last september...made by Draper and was only £20. It had lots of bits, polishing pads, grinding wheels etc.

We also have a tool stall in our local market and he had sets of 'Dremmel' type attachement selling for £1.00

You could look here as well as they may have something
