changing valve rubbers

Post by BIGTRACTOR » Mon Feb 19, 2007 7:40 pm

hi all,

i had a problem with keeping pressure on my king keg the last time i used it, so i've bought a pack of the four valve rubbers. just thought i'd ask if there is a special way to stretch the rubbers over the valve, (i'm thinking of the brown one and the thin black one)?

also is it necessary to change all four? including the large flat black one underneath the big nut?

any help greatly appreciated.

The black one for the input valve was really easy to push on.
the brown for the pressure release valve on the outside was irritating. I had to sort of roll it on, almost. I was nervous about chopping it up on the tank threads.

If i were you, i'd change the main washer for the lid, too. If you change it and get a black one, don't use vaseline to help the seal either.

You could try soaking them in hot water first, I think it makes the job easier.

They can be a bit tricky even when softened with hot water, try sliding 2 small nails inside the brown seal, pull them outwards to slightly stretch the seal & slide it over the threads & down into its place.
