Bigger Boiler

Post by PieOPah » Fri Feb 23, 2007 12:07 pm

At some point in the near future, I intend to increase the size of my boiler.

At present I am using a Bruheat which is a little small for my requirements (I would prefer to get more wort in the boiler without the need to top up!)

I fully intend taking my current element and adding this to whatever bucket I end up using. What I want to know, is whether or not THIS fermenting bin will take the heat.

If not, could somebody please make a suggestion for an alternative.

Thanks.

If it's HDPE, yes, and if it's not then probably not.

I already have 2 of these. Is there any way to tell if it is HDPE or not?

Should be stamped on the base. Although it might just have "PP"...

Fantastic. I'll check to see whether or not it has this stamped on it and take it from there.

Thanks :)

This, and it's big 60L brother, are the range of buckets I use for HLT and boiler. They are PP and fine for boilers.

Pop I brought this as a plain bucket to replace a Bruheat installing the Bruheat element and a 2.2Kw 'tesco' element
.

This is it with about 25l of wort coming to the boil

Personally I would go for something bigger as even though it is 33l I still have to make additions

I want to try and keep the cost down as much as possible. I already have an element from my bruheat although I am tempted to buy a second one.....

Buying a bucket for around £8 and an element around £15 is still a cheaper way of doing things. Even if I just stick with the bucket at £8 (plus P&P) then I will have a working boiler....

Tesco, £5.97, kettle + mallet to remove element = £9.03 cheaper than an element from HBS 8)
£9.03 buys extra malt and Mars bars for Pop to brew with :?

What type of power do they give out compared the element that comes with the bruheat boiler?

2.2kw as opposed to I think 2.7kw.
If it's an addition to a boiler it should be plenty 8)
I use 2 of these elements in my boiler and my old electrim element sits in my HLT :)

I may look into 2 kettle elements and leave my current boiler for heating sparge water instead....

Pop, I only brought the bucket nothing else, then fitted the elements, can't remember the cost but it was inexpensive.
The point I was making was that even though it is 33l I find I still have to make additions ( as the picture shows with only 25l in it) so although it is bigger than the Bruheat I wish I had gone bigger

The tesco elements are 2.2Kw and the Bruheat 2.75Kw 2.2Kw will maintain a good rolling boil.

BTW sainsbury's have the same 2.2Kw kettle for £4.99

Hi there, how do I identify said kettles? (apart from price I guess doh silly question! )

I also want to add a second element to my boiler / build a new boiler to speed things up as waiting for an hour to get wort to boil could be time better spent. Plus its quite old and the idea of it failing and 25l of boiling wort going everywhere...
