Corny Kegs

Post by Calum » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:37 pm

Just wanted to come out clean and say that bought 2 corny kegs of Norman on eBay today.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

Its my birthday later in the month and my parents said they would give me a cheque for £25. I then realised that as SWMBO had been selling books on eBay that there was £11 left in the PayPal account. So, I managed to get a couple of kegs for £2 a piece (I'm as happy as a man who just got 2 corny kegs for £4 - erm, I think you know what I mean).

All I need to do now is let SWMBO know I have invested her book money on something less literary than she intended but it will make the garage look better [-o<

Well in Caldo.

Those kegs will take a fair bit of cleaning, let us know if you have any problems getting the smell out

Bicarbonate of Soda will take the smell of anything off of anything else.

From reading what everyone else on this forum has said in the cleaning section, i'd say make a solution of bicarb.. say as much as you can dissolve in a pint, slosh that around for a good few minutes.
Then dump soda crystals in and soak them in (warm?) water for a few hours.
Then apply your sterilizing regimen!

DaaB said in another thread that you might want to unscrew the dispense/gas posts and give them a good soak too.

If they're old, you might also have to replace the o-rings.

From what I can make out it will be a good exercise in finding out how these things are put together.

I have nothing to put in them yet so I'll have plenty of time to get them fully serviced. I need to get a sack of malt to get production under way again.
have you got some taps and gas lined up
Not yet, I'm going to get a couple of S30 valves for the gas to get me started. I already have a tap on my other cornie so I can use this for now. Once I get close to filling up my available capacity I will sort out new taps. :)

The kegs arrived today and although they look a bit dented they aren't as dirty as I was expecting. Certainly good value. 8)

Well looks like you did better than me. Mine either had some kind of green scale, pink syrupy goop or dead spiders
