Handy tip for transfering of beer?

Post by oxford brewer » Tue Mar 06, 2007 10:58 pm

Visited my local HBS(Stonehelm) last weekend and after a good chat about various brewing matter, i asked him about caps for carboys that have 2 holes for airlocks or syphon tubes as a possibilty for transfering beer with as less trouble as feasible, you can get a syphon effect going by blowing gently into the airspace in the carboy with a small length of racking cane placed in one of the holes on the carboy cap, whilst letting the beer flow from into the keg via a racking cane and tubing!

However he cant get those type of caps so he showed me this homemade gadget for injecting some c02 into your keg or secondary fermentor before the transferal of beer.
Thought it was quite ingenius

One s30 canister and a s30 injector valve, 1' of 25mm bore garden hose and a size 1A jubilee clip.
Remove the band type seal on what would be on the inside of the keg, insert s30vale into the garden hose(with the thread showing  )and tighten down with the clip(screw the locknut all the way down to give the clip more to grip onto!)

Just blast some gas in there before you start and it is sat under a blanket of c02 whilst the transfer goes ahead!
