would blue silicone hose, the type sold by most car accessory stores like halfords be useable or is it not food grade
Im Guessing there is a reason for it being coloured blue rather than clear?

Re: Blue Silicone Hose
Wont be food grade - likely to be contaminated with production oils which could taste rather nasty....

Re: Blue Silicone Hose
If it's not 'platinum cured' then it's generally not considered food-grade nor suitable for home brewing.
Re: Blue Silicone Hose
Interesting question.
I use the black equivalent on my bottling gun, never had any probs or off tastes from it. Obviously gave it a damn good clean through before using it.
My understanding was the platinium curing process merely cleans trace extrusion chemicals from the silicone.
That said i found you can pick up dairy/milk hose for the same or less

Re: Blue Silicone Hose
just google it mate loads of places its about £40 for 20m
if however you just want a bit for the bottling gun take a look at cool products they do low diameter stuff. There P&P is a bit steep so best combine it with a few other bits. i have found then good for John guest fitting to

Re: Blue Silicone Hose
Meh... I've used automotive grade silicone hose for a number of brewery applications without any noticeable ill effect.
Cheers
