Electric Brewery Build UK Version
Here goes...
I`ve got alot of parts that I have obtained over the last 6 months in the view of making an "Electric Brewery" control box http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/ also having been inspired by another thread on here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46484.
I have thought about doing something similar to Jabba`s post viewtopic.php?f=6&t=49623 but until I get my head around programming etc I thought I would take the more "hands on approach"
So far I have a suitable box for the build - 27mm Cannon Ammo Box Genuine German Army Surplus Eurofighter Tool Box EMPTY from ebay
3 PIDS with the SSR package from ebay
The majority of the 22mm switches and LED indicators on order again via ebay (mostly Hong Kong suppliers)
Still looking at the relays
Still looking for suitable connectors which are in stock, thanks to links via "beer taster" & "themadhippy" for the powercon true1 fittings true1
Anyone else built one of the Electric Brewery boards?

Hi,
I have built a very very rough electric brewery board mine just has a pair of 40A contactors, not SSR's, I am needing to upgrade some of the connectors, and I was going to use this version of the powercon connecter as its 20A not 16A
http://www.neutrik.com/en/audio/powercon/powercon-20-a/
I have seen a number of people selling these on ebay.

yep the origanal powercon, and there great at what they do,however they suffer from a couple of anoying quirks, like a male and female cable conector cant be joined together without an adaptor box, there not rated to connect or disconect on load, and the sping locking slide dont like to much rough tratment. personaly unless you need backward compatabilaty id go with the newer design,

Re: Electric Brewery Build UK Version
As the majority of the stuff I have on order is going to take 3 to 4 weeks delivery from HK, I have decided to wait until the powercon1 products become available, the only thing I need to source now is a suitable 30amp locking connection, female plug with a male chasis socket (power in) . Any ideas anyone.

Hi Barney,
Is this what you are after? I have it lieing around and don't need it so would sell it if your interested. I might also have some 6mm flex for 32A cables if your interested.

Thats the sort of thing, except I want something more of a panel flange mount.
Cheers

Re: Electric Brewery Build UK Version
That the one panel mount with the male inlet.
Cheers
PS I did look at the pwoercon one but they only appear to do the socket in a female version? , as I want to use it as the inlet I would need the male equivalent

Re: Electric Brewery Build UK Version
yea it gets confusing with powercons, the panel mount NAC3MP-HC is a power in connector and mates with the NAC3FC-HC which is classed as a femalebut they only appear to do the socket in a female version?

Re: Electric Brewery Build UK Version
Im in a similar position, planning the control box build, but i dont have a 32amp power source. I currently power the elements for my boiler/hlt by extention leads from 2 separate ring mains. for my control box i am planning of fitting 2 16amp euro sockets which will be connected inside to a common junction box from which power switched by ssrs will be distributed, which will again be fed from 2 ring main extentions. No more than 2 ssrs feeding kettle elements wil be on at any one time..
however it will be also powering a 350watt pc psu for 12 and 5v feeds, less than 100ma on 5v (controller) and a solar pump on the 12v. plus a few 12v indicator lights and a 8cm fan or 2.
Is this a foolish plan? id rather be shot down in flames in here than burst into em during the inaugural brew..
I didnt see any heatsinks included in the pid probe and ssr bundle linked to ?? if not already on order you can get some here

Re: Electric Brewery Build UK Version
Hi Fil,
Yep those are the exactly the heat sinks I have already bought (sitting in my parts box)
, bought as a separate item, may have to get one more tho.
As my garage is directly next to the brew room I`ve opted for a new supply to be wired in to simplify the operation of things.
Liking the idea of a pc psu (hadnt thought of that
) all the kit I`m buying will be 5v for the smaller side of things.
I was going to use my solar pumps as well but am keeping with the 240 volt supplies (transformer / solar pump) incase I use March pumps at a later date.
Finally my set is a little different from the EB site in that I have a separate HERMS pot, but for the time being I`ll build exactly as per their instructions to get it working then a few adaptions at a later stage, either that or a simply element lead swap over connection for the HLT / Herms pot. (KISS)
As for your power supply question I`m sure there are few sparkys on here

Re: Electric Brewery Build UK Version
I`ve had a few problems getting hold of the Powercon1 fittings with most stockests not having any until mid June.
However this email I received from them has sorted the problem out.

I got mine through electrovision in the end.Thank you for your interest in Neutrik products.
The Neutrik UK website now has a Distributor Stock Search facility. Just go to http://www.neutrik.co.ukand find the particular part you are interested in (you can type that part number in the top right hand search bar). When viewing the product click on ‘Distributor Stock Search’ on the bottom right of the screen. You will then be shown who has stock of the part you are interested in.
I have checked and the below distributors currently have some stock of the NAC3FPX and they would be able to get hold of more through Neutrik UK.

Re: Electric Brewery Build UK Version
do you plan on each feed supplying a seprate outlet,if yes then no problem,if however you intend joining the supplys together to increase the current, stop right now,in my industry such ideas are knowen as widow makers.i am planning of fitting 2 16amp euro sockets which will be connected inside to a common junction box from which power switched by ssrs will be distributed, which will again be fed from 2 ring main extentions. So glad I found this! I'm just planning a similar control box but it was not going to be as impressive as the electric brewery one. It will probably be 6 months before I get mine started so I'm interested to see how yours goes!
