Element Shrouds Heads Up

Post by barneey » Fri Nov 09, 2012 7:12 pm

Following a lead from Chastuck quite a few weeks ago now, I`ve just been given the heads up from "Gordon" at Mid Cork Metalworks Ltd [sales@midcorkmetal.ie] that he has made some more element shrouds, just the thing to finish that build off.

Cheers

Nope, only just ordered them tonight, been after some for the last year, someone used to make them on here nut stopped doing them. It wasnt until I saw this post viewtopic.php?f=6&t=53557&p=563760#p563760 there was a glimmer of hope.

No idea of the grade

They are absolutely first class. I was lucky enough to collect a few off him in person last year. A really talented guy too and very helpful.

Just a quick update, have now fitted the shrouds, bloody good product, well worth the extra money to finish things.

Note if you are planning a build the shrouds are just a tad under 50mm external diameter, I ve now bought some additional washers to cover the gap (thermo pot ext diameter 60mm hole cut for KM8 Nut use), so if your planning to make some element holes in a thermo pot and have the shrouds the external hole is 50mm diameter / internal hole to suit your element.

Here you go.... I`ve been after a set for over a year, trubru used to make them, but stopped.

Still waiting on the cover washer for the pot, but as I said if you make the external hole in the thermo pot 50mm the shroud is all you need, good bye KM Nuts

just curious, what is the point in these? not being ignorant just not sure how the benefit. the shroud covers the foam inside a thermopot???!

They provide a housing for the junction between the element electrical connection prongs and the power lead. This helps keep liquids off the junction and also keeps prying hands away.
By the looks of it then it also works as a backnut when fitting the element into a vessel.

Plus from an aesthetic point of view they look a hell of alot better :)

They are also easier to use than the KM nut, theres more to grap hold off when doing the shroud up, thats why I had a 60mm hole in the thermo pot with the KM nuts leaving enough room to tighten the things.

Maybe expensive but worth the extra me thinks.
