lubricating nylon drum taps

Post by lord groan » Sun Mar 03, 2013 2:44 pm

Has anyone used vaseline to lube the threads on the drum taps you get on king kegs and beerspheres? Mine are cleaned each for each use but trying to turn them smoothly to draw a pint gets more and more difficult, they stick, then jump and blast beer out suddenly. I'm hoping a bit of vaseline will let them work smoothly without getting in the beer or degrading the tap
Thanks

Vaseline works fine. You need to prise the cap off the top of the handle and then the tap unscrews. You can then lubricate the threads. When re-assembling, note that there is usually a double thread, so there are two positions the handle can end up in. Probably only one will close the tap without it leaking.
