Dead mice in boiler

Post by PEACOCKSUIT » Mon May 20, 2013 7:01 pm

Hi everyone. After a lengthy break from home brewing I decided to venture into the shed and dig out my homebrew tackle. To my horror I discovered 2 dead Mice/Voles in my boiler! I only put it in the shed a month or so ago. The shed has got a bit of a leak and the boiler had a few inches of dirty rain water inside along with these 2 dead mice. The smell was dreadful :-&.

I tipped out the content of the bucket and filled it with hot soapy water. I then refilled it with a bleach solution.

It is a DIY boiler made from a 60l HK plastics bucket with a 3KW element. Iv hardly used it! #-o

Would it be ok to use this after dismantling and thoroughly cleaning and sterilizing it? I am reluctant to throw it away as it cose a small fortune to build :(.

Opinions folks. Cheers

Dont be so bloody soft, Get a brew on. There must be thousands of rats a year boiled up along with Grains over all the breweries in Britain.

Even if they stank to high heaven. If you boiled them they would be quite safe to eat. :)

Make sure you rinse out the bleach very well 'though.

Don't forget the bird shit*, unless your Maris Otter was grown in poly tunnel

*probably found under "misc ingredients" in most brewing software.

Could be their secret ingredient! I can't think of another way of producing such a gut wrenching pasty!
Cheers and gone,

This is why I hand wash every grain before milling it. Brewday length is currently 17 months.

If you're gonna use rat, I would make sure you boil it first ,
