quickie re beer in a box
Folks this has probably been asked before so sorry, but would this type of product withstand the pressure build up (low to moderate only) if I racked just primed beer into them
http://www.baginboxonline.co.uk/buyit.html
And, would I use my normal 80 grams per 20 litre batch?

I think these are the same as polypins but with different taps. I used to prime with 80gms of sugar, don't both now as I use with handpump and find I don't need to.

Re: quickie re beer in a box
Ive 'kegged' a few batches into polypins and primed, but i always tipped the tap to the top and used it to vent off excess pressure at least twice during the conditioning, and used about 1/3-1/2 the sugar i used to prime in a beersphere/PB.
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate

Re: quickie re beer in a box
I use the bag in a box things for wine.
The bags are very thin and I would not expect them to take even a small amount of pressure.
It's years since I've been near what I know as a polypin but back then polypins used very thick plastic and would take a certain amount of pressure.

I've never used the bag in a box but the web site does state for ale. Murphys sell ones like I buy from my LHBS.boingy wrote:I use the bag in a box things for wine.

That Murphy's one looks the same as the polypins I used back in the day. The "bag" is quite thick plastic, flexible but certainly not floppy.
I've only used the 5 litre "bag in a box" ones which are sold for ale, and the bags are more like thick freezer bags, you can roll them round your finger or fold them up like paper. You can see them on their website sitting completely flat. I certainly wouldn't be happy with any pressure in one, but I'm happy for someone else to experiment!

Must admit the ones sold.by Murphy's seem to have a much thicker liner and better tap. Reflected in the price.
Just like trying new ideas!

Re: quickie re beer in a box
with a foot pump or compressor you could pressure test to destruction first to give you an idea of the sort of pressure needed to expolde a bag?
could be fun

If you do film it.Fil wrote:with a foot pump or compressor you could pressure test to destruction first to give you an idea of the sort of pressure needed to expolde a bag?

Re: quickie re beer in a box
And if you are going to film it you'd be daft to pass on the chance of filling it with bright coloured paint and glitter....

Whilst placing it on a canvas...
