Stainless Strap Bands

Post by barneey » Mon Jun 24, 2013 9:09 pm

I`m after some stainless steel strap banding approx. 12mm wide , doesn't have to be all that think 0.5 or 0.90 but needs to be approx. 2m in length. Must be solid not the holey fastener stuff.

Anyone any ideas of where to get any?

Cheers

This is probably not quite what you're after, for width or thickness, but if actual SS strip is too pricey or impossible to find have you thought about using a stainless steel measuring tape? Cut to length and reverse it so the unmarked back shows?

just a thought

Cheers for the suggestion, but fear the tape will be spring steel.

Ive seen roofing shops sell rolls of 20m + but dont really want to end up with loads spare.

Clive,

Does it have to be 12mm wide ?

I may be able to get you some strip guillotined but wound need to be at least 30mm wide.

Have you considered other materials, those copper draft excluders come as flat strips.

just thinking 'aloud' but I guess you're looking for something like the metal strapping used on bigger crates for shipping, a quick google suggests marine and meat/fish industries may use stainless steel strapping, so have you got any big food market/wholesale industrial areas nearby? Or factories or industrial estates where machinery is shipped in and out?
You might find strapping which has been used and is being thrown away? or a helpful machine operator who could cut you off a few metres?
Sorry it's not really very helpful, and I guess you've already thought about this kind of thing
good luck

The strap will be used on my 150 ltr pot for two middle straps, Ive already had the top and bottom ones made to approx 40mm wide and was looking for the other two as a some what decorative barrel item, they would need to be alot thinner than the other two.

Ive look at ebay for packing straps etc but cant really find anything at the moment.

Or similar, they do the first 2 cuts for free, so with these I ended up with 40mm approx.

Just managed to get hold of some 12.5mm wide strap in a continuous 30m length, so will have loads left over, which as always will be selling on the unused stuff
