Not yet. But I'm sure we can split a box.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
I assume we will split it based on the proportion of the total number of kegs ordered i.e. not the same number each?

Re: Ecofass Kegs
That sounds fair. The more kegs you have the more bags you will need.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
I'd be worried about oxydation. As far as I can tell, the bags are just normal bags -- no oxygen barrier. So if you're using air, you're basically surrounding your beer with a load of oxygen, with nothing in between except a thin bit of plastic. That'd be my main concern. Interested to see how people get on with these, though.
Re: Ecofass Kegs
So far I have only used co2 as it was easier and I was also using it for another keg. The plastic is not thin, it is quite substantial, so unless the beer is in there for an extended period, oxygenation should not be a problem. I don't know the composition of the plastic and that may also be a factor and these are designed for beverage use.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
Would it not be very strange for the bag not to be o2 barrier proof? one of the + points (for me anyway) would be able to use compressed air to provide a serving medium.
Anyone asked the question to find out? I had "assumed" they would be, but assuming things is always dangerous.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
I've had a look at a few journals online that look at the rate of transfer of oxygen through food safe plastic... yes, there really are people who research that! Since the bag is very thick compared to most food packaging the rate of transfer is going to be really low. Of course the big problem is that I don't know how much oxygen is needed before beer will taste off. However the transfer is going to be much lower than with bottle caps or corks and bottles can be drinkable a year after bottling or even more.
Bottom line, it will be fine for at least a year even if you leave it under pressure.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
Beer bottle caps are made of metal and are impermeable to oxygen. Even if they weren't, their surface area is tiny compared to the surface of a plastic bag. I think I'll take your 'bottom line' with a pinch of salt.
The more useful comparison would be with polypins, since these Ecofass things are essentially polypins inside pressure barrels. Unless the Ecofass bags have some sort of oxygen barrier, I imagine the staling rate would be roughly the same.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
Having never used polypins what is the staling rate?
Cheers

Re: Ecofass Kegs
I will email them and ask. But they are designed to be used with compressed air and they sell a (very) expensive machine to do just that for beer service.barneey wrote:Would it not be very strange for the bag not to be o2 barrier proof? one of the + points (for me anyway) would be able to use compressed air to provide a serving medium.
