Had a quick look, and was impressed by the detail. Will have a proper look when I've got more time.

How do you test to see if your cool box will hold the temperature needed for mashing?

I added 3 pints of hot water at 70 celsius for 60 Minutes but it fell to 55 i have read
that it is ok to be 10- or 10 + of the mash but any help would be good :)

Mmmm...

Mash temperature is quite important, I think the range suggested might be a little problematic. I also think most people would punt for something in the high 60s rather than 70 degrees... :beer

I'm no expert but... :P

I thought that there were some thermal differences between hot water and a hot mash i.e. water on its own will dissipate heat faster than water mixed with gain ?

Also, did you "pre-heat" the tun with boiling water before introducing your volume of test mash water ? I reckon swilling a few litres of boiling water around in the tun to get it warmed up would be a "must do" activity....

Mmm...

That does seem to be quite a large loss through all that insulation... I guess the simplest way round would be to reduce the heat gradient... Do you have an airing cupboard?

If I can be bothered I might conduct the same experiment as Mr C but with
my Thermos coolbox tonight.....

Or I might just have a couple of pints and chill :D

Potentially my last extract brew is just ready for drinking - Brupaks Scammonden Dark
Had the first couple of pints last night and not bad B)

Full grain brew is next :stun

Excellent DAB!

Is the main tubing 22mm or 15mm copper and what size does the tee reduce to on
the PVC connector stub ? Plus, what size PVC hose is that for the tap<->tee stub ?

That looks like an excellent piece of kit you've made there, DAB.

Did you solder up the joints or just leave them as a push fit?
