Sankey conical(ish!) fermenter

Post by dean_wales » Tue Sep 24, 2013 9:10 am

Hi guys,

I have a 50 litre sankey keg that I brought from Morrow Brothers which is going spare. I think I want to convert it into some kind of fermentation vessel - using two 25 litre plastic fermenters can be pain.

My rough idea is to:
- Turn it upside down
- Follow the other threads ideas on triclamp attachment to (now bottom) outlet
- Cut a hole in in the top and weld a cornie lid (or similar pressure holding access) into it. There was a thread wasn't there?
- Wrap the keg in a soil warming cable and micro bore copper pipe to control temperature.
- Insulate the whole thing with a layer of closed cell foam and then foil bubble wrap.
- Tack weld the whole thing onto a basic ghettto frame made from box section.
- Enjoy fermenting batch in one go and without a fridge!

What do you guys reckon? Particularily interested in costs and availability of the lid/access.
