Oven Gloves

Post by barneey » Thu Sep 26, 2013 8:03 am

Anyone recommend a pair of oven gloves please.

I`ve looked at these Gloves

They give good resistance to dry heat and have fingers but I wanted something similar but with good wet heat protection as well.

After many years in catering I much prefer oven cloths to gloves, much safer. A wet glove on a hot surface lets the heat straight through. much better to use a cloth and keep it dry.
A good pair of rubber gloves or gauntlets are better for the wet stuff.

We've got silicone gloves, work well with wet and dry heat, and very grippy. Just feel weird.

I use these (or similar) for my log burners, so they're good for the heat we'd need to use them for. They're made from the same material as used in Formula One flame proof overalls, so designed to protect you in extreme heat.

One word of warning, they are essentially Nomex strands woven together, so as per the previous post, if they get wet, then they will conduct heat.

So great for dry usage, not so great if they get wet.

I`ve got a pair of industrial rubber gauntlets which then might work very well the glove / sorta like the best of both worlds, might also try a silicone glove out to see how I get on.

Cheers
