Cornie kegs

DAAB - you're a cornelius keg user aren't you ? Are your kegs converted to accept a hambleton bard CO2 cylinder thread or do you have an external C02 cylinder ?

Or something else ? :D

I see! "Widget World" eh, nice one :D

So the original post connections on the keg are used with a gas hose going to the widget setup and a dispensing hose presumably with a tap on the end ?

My cornies accept the HB cylinders. I was just wondering how this rates economically vs using a more bulk system. I guess the HB system costs about £1 to pressure, dispense and clean one batch through a corny. I'm sure bulk would be cheaper, but how long to recoup the capital outlay?

Cornie users - how do you avoid getting sediment in the beer as I thought the beer flows through a stainless tube having its inlet right down at the bottom of the keg.....where any residual yeast etc settles.... ??

I see! Do you move to secondary fv when primary fermentation is effectively finished ?

Oh, and what do you think would be a good price for a used cornie which hasn't been modified i.e just has the ball mount posts and supplied disconnects ? I'm 'investigating' ;)

I have been thinking about cornies too..

H&G have them for £34 I think, which is a good price, not sure if they need new gaskets. Have you seen the price of cornies in the US?...£12 each..God we get ripped off..

There is also homebrewwlaes, which looking at their website is also a bar/brewery supplies place (of sorts). They might have some really knocked about ones as a result. Just a (stupid!) thought.

One recently went on ebay (used) for £46 + £10 p&P which i thought was a stupid amount of money.

Thought i might actually be able to by a corny from a retailer ..use it...flog it on ebay and make some money!!! :bonk :bonk

DAAB/anyone - do you know any widgets which will allow conventional S30 C02 cylinders to be used with cornie kegs via the C02 disconnect rather than having a S30 valve fitted to the keg itself ?

I've got some S30 cylinders which I could use initially before looking at a 'better' solution.

Edit: It would also make for a more"portable" solution for parties etc.

Obviously the widget world CO2 cylinders are a better solution, but I would also like to try using my Sodastream cylinder to keep down the initial capital outlay.

DAAB, are the gas input quick disconnect things on the keg one way valves as well, when they are connected? Or could gas excape from the keg if one's makeshift connection to a CO2 cylinder was a bit dodgy?
