Beer Machine.

Post by Worty » Sun Jan 08, 2006 8:54 pm

Hello all, as someone who used to homebrew beer back in the 70's/80's, I fancied getting back into it (but not messing about with heating brews up etc and cleaning bottles), I deceided to go for a Beer Machine (did I hear a sharp intake of breath) ?? Have followed the instructions to the letter but after about 5 weeks now the beer is still a bit cloudy and very yeasty, any suggestions (apart from "not using one of those confounded Beer Machines) !!!!

Regards, Worty. :beer

Hi Worty and welcome!

A work colleague got presented with one of those contraptions for his 40th recently.

It was sh*t and he sent it back

Sorry!

Although the kits I've bought have an "advanced" instructions booklet which does recommend a short boil.....

Andy

Are those the 'totally' canned kits or the kits with some hops, grains etc.

Very few of the kits iv'e ever used have recommended boiling (Woodfordes and John Bull for sure) as this is likey to drive of all hop aroma.

I remember the old Boots beer kits used to recommend boiling for 2 minutes with one gallon of water. I think that was probably to ensure sterility rather than for any flavour reasons, though.

James - all canned kits, the Brupaks ones came with a small hop bag to pop in for the (very short!) boil however.

Just to update you all, I tried Beer-Brite and it worked fine. Beer still tastes a bit yeasty though, thinking of trying a suggestion in the instructions of throwing another beer mix into the barrel when this one's finished, no cleaning/steralising and no additional yeast !!
