Cleaning Cornie Kegs

Post by Andy » Sat Jan 28, 2006 3:06 pm

Well my Cillit Bang oxygen cleaner stuff seems to have removed the citrus odour from my cornie keg! B) Will take the posts to bits later and clean those up too.

The Cillit Bang stuff is reduced at Sainsburys at the mo - £1.50 for a 500g tub.

I always knew that Cillit Bang stuff would come in handy for something! (apart from cleaning pennies, that is).

Yes, has the blue crystals but if you are quick and add a couple of scoops to 5L of warm water in a bucket, swill it around a bit and then pour into the keg carefully then the blue crystals mostly stay behind. (similar to the method you used DaaB).

I bought some Betadine from boots for sanitising duties (i.e. Iodophor) and it's great. I put a teaspoonful into a litre garden handheld sprayer and used that....

Just dismantled the cornie inlet/outlet posts and I can recommend others do the same if you haven't already...

I thought I'd cleaned out the cornie pretty well but removing each post revealed a small amount of what appears to be 7-up with a really strong aroma!

The Cillit Bang is doing it's stuff as we speak so bye bye 7-up

Going to get replacement o-rings also.

DaaB - yeah, I meant 1/2 tsp...

OK, give my three Norm kegs a soak in some soda crystals solution this morning.

After the soak and having rinsed them out I used a piece of kitchen paper to wipe around the internals of the keg in order to dry it out. Good job I did as the resultant paper was filthy after cleaning! So I'd advise giving the kegs internals a good wipe with a damp cloth or kitchen towel. Nice and shiney now B)

(It's a tight squeeze getting your hand all the way in the keg though! Especially getting it back out  )
