FV heating, Underfloor heating?
FV heating, Underfloor heating?
What do you guys think to wrapping these around the FV's to keep them heated? linked up to a PID temperature controller

I don't think you'd be able to shrink it down if it's too big?
Also 230v wrapped around a pot of liquid.
Could work though. I've seen one of these fitted before and after the guy laid his tiles he had an earth fault. In the end despite my advice he connected it up and said he felt like he could fry an egg on his kitchen floor it was so hot. Scary stuff

Good point, what about going to a low wattage version? say 100W? Ive said low but i really dont know how they would perform to be honest, hence the advice needed! any other suggestions if not that?

Re: FV heating, Underfloor heating?
How big are the FV's??
i heat 20-25l in my fridge with a 60w tube heater, before i had a 25w fish tank heater in a waterbath
cant see a power ratting for the under-carpet webbing?? if 20-50w then perhaps? if a lot higher it may be too powerful.
Also a pid may be overkill for control and not the best thing either unless your constantly moving from one specific temp to another. and a simpler device such as an stc1000 may work better.
for insulation im cheap and like £shop spaceblankets, camping mats, and luggage straps not as pretty perhaps but a lot cheaper,,

actually the stc1000 was exactly what i was just looking at, I had just bookmarked that page haha
its 100W, the FV is 1m diameter and just over 0.7m high, 120L ones from here:

They look good, wattage doesn't really matter if you use a PID, as long as it is not too LOW. However, I use soil heating cable as they are designed for a wet environment.

Fridge, tube heater, STC1000.
First option cheap second option a little more and slightly better, both will do the job.

I use a builders trug/ storage bucket from Tesco. Hold a 25l fermentor: £3
A fish tank heater from ebay: £15
And a digital thermometer with probe (like STC1000) as a quick check, ebay: £1.50

If you're going to run it off a controller, I find a Brew Belt does the job nicely.

Re: FV heating, Underfloor heating?
No - it's not big enough, and I doubt it has enough power.
