Dumb airlock question

Post by bitter_dave » Mon Feb 06, 2006 10:21 pm

The guy in a homebrew shop gave me this airlock gratis as I was spending a few quid. I was wondering how I, ahem, use it - how much water etc. Dave Line's Harveys recipe involves secondary fermenting in a fermentation bin with an airlock. The bin has a hole in the lid and the rubber ring thing already. Out of curiosity as well, how does this differ from the bubble one you see?

Btw, aren't digital cameras great!

cheers DAAB, that's what I was thinking. I suppose it doesn't really matter how much I fill it?

They are called top-hat airlocks. I use these over the 'ripple' airlocks as I find them much easier to use an clean.

You need to put enough vodka in the 'cup' so that it covers the 'bottom' of the hat. In total I reckon about 7mm-worth of vodka
