what size fermenter

Post by paulg » Tue Jan 28, 2014 3:49 pm

I normally brew 25 litre brew length but occasionally 40 litres.
I need to buy a new fermenter. My question is if I was to buy a 50 litre fermenter would I have problems with only 25 litres inside,or would I be better with 2 x 30 litre fermenters .Although I would struggle to fit 2 fermenters in my fridge

Brewed a 23 litre batch, fermented in 60 litre plastic conical. I didn't have any problems.

a good fermentation should evacuate all the air with a good co2 blanket fairly soon but if your concerned u could always purge the air out post sterilisation with a blast of co2
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

thanks for the replies .I was concerned about the head space with a small amount of wort but it seems not to be a problem.so I think a 60 litre conical is the answer.
thanks
