I have a tattoo PSU that I'm going to use as the base and to control a stir plate.
What size fan should I use? Any links to the 2 magnets for the fan and also the stir bar?
Thanks

Re: stir plate
Why don't you just take a magnet off of an old hard drive?danb wrote:I have a tattoo PSU that I'm going to use as the base and to control a stir plate.

Re: stir plate
It's worth just getting some off eBay.
When I made my stir plate that's what I did. Stuck to a regualr computer fan (although I did get one with blue LEDs. Very swish!) inside the body of a cheap clock.
I've got some links to equipment and stuff in this thread if its any use to you.

Re: stir plate
We made two stir plates today, we tried a couple of different ones from eBay and the 15mm x 3mm ones the best on a 120mm fan, though I'm sure fan size is far les important

Re: stir plate
I built two of these a couple of years back for a little over £30 each and hardly use them now.
After experimenting with liquid yeast, I have now returned to using dried yeast because I find it more convenient.
Here's a price break down...
Enclosure box £11.65
12v PC fan £2.55
Variable speed controller £5.71
12v Rocker switch £3.20
Power socket £1.97
12v Power adaptor £3.49
Rare earth magnets £3.17
Non slip dash mat £1.80
All purchased on eBay.
An improvement that I would possibly make is to replace the existing pairs of stacked magnets with stronger and slightly larger ones to improve stability at higher fan speed.
