Wilkinson's standard hydrometer works fine for me!

I have around 3 wiklinsons ones for at home.

If you want to splash out I use these at work, with a scale from 1000-1030 and 1030-1060 from http://www.vigoltd.com/Catalogue/Testin ... harometers

Seems they are from http://www.stevenson-reeves.co.uk/ but cheaper. But then again, that's cause I have a budget to spend, rather than money from my pocket ^^

Saying all that. I would never buy one for homebrewing at that price, when there's nothing wrong with the £3.50 wilkinsons ones!

There are, but I still feel the heartache when mine from the nineteen sixties broke. Now I have three from Wilkinson that I can afford to replace.

Soz this is a bit of a late reply, but only just seen this thread. I too struggle to read the standard combi beer/wine hydrometers - the scale is too wide, so the markings are too close together. Was very pleased to get a beer hydrometer as a pressie (so source unknown, I'm afraid). Since then, I came across these, which seem to fit the question in the OP:
