co2 cylinders for cornie kegs

Post by PeterESB » Sun Mar 26, 2006 3:12 pm

A chap at work said he could get me a pub stile co2 cylinder with a regulator/pressure gauge and pub beer taps!!! :D
But when I was talking to him he seemed to think that I would need a "5% or 7% co2 cylinder" , he said this because he's got a 'bar set-up' at his GAF and he gets brewery kegs of commercial Larger E.g. Fosters, Stellar, to drink at home :beer . He said that I would need this type of cylinder because, when he had a pure co2 rigged up, all he got out was a pint of foam :out . Is this what I need or do I need a pure co2 gas cylinder. He said he could get me ether. HE'S A TOP BLOKE!!!!! :D :D :D
And out of interest does anyone know how pub beer pumps work? ;) Do cornie kegs work differently to commercial beer kegs? :stun

Peter - did you get in touch with Norm re: kegs ?

Regarding the CO2 - if your mate is getting just foam then it sounds like he's got the pressure set too high. A pure CO2 supply is fine for dispensing from Cornies with a suitable regulator.

Also Andy did I read that you had made a temperature controlled mash box. How did you do this ;) , I got lost when you said about the lamp :stun .

If any one has made a thermostat controlled mash, could you tell me about it. :)

Prices have gone up a bit they are 1 keg for £35 posted or two for £60; it's cheaper for two because of postage.

No, wasn't me who mentioned temp. controlled mash tun..

With the coolbox type the temperature remains very stable without a heater.
