I'm in the process of putting a biab setup together. I' want to keep things as simple as possible in order to keep the brew time and clean up time to a minimum.
Rather than add a sight glass to my biab pot I was thinking of using scales instead.
Can anyone recommend what to buy? I've seen parcel scales but they can be expensive.
Scales for hlt
Re: Scales for hlt
Depends on the volumes you're working with but the ProShip are used by most people. It's always worth searching the forum too!

Re: Scales for hlt
I'm currently on the lookout for a good quality set of scales in the 3-4kg x 0.1g range, on ebay. I have noticed there are some absolute bargains on there that'll do heavy weights in larger increments that would suit your needs. Brands such as ohaus, avery berkel, Adam Equipment, Sartorius are all good and robust industrial/commercial scales that i've used at work in a wet, dusty and harsh chemical, textile dyeing environment.
For example: 60kg scales.

Re: Scales for hlt
Why bother with scales...a Heath Robinson approach perhaps. Fill your hlt in 1 litre increment ...shove an old bit of copper pipe in..mark off each level!!. Keep for reference.
Just like trying new ideas!

Re: Scales for hlt
I have a set of the 300kg 50cm sq platform proship scales, for my 80l tun to sit on for monitoring/controlling the underlet liquor.
not in place yet, but its the business
also check the accuracy, of the scales you look at as well as the platform size and capacity..
depending on the size of your pot you could use a smaller platform by employing feet under the pot, im sure ive seen it done with good effect, tho i cant recall who or where .
depending on your intentions and interests in logging information or electronic control, one feature of the large more expensive (£100-250 depending on ebay auction results..) mine were £125+pnp Proship scales, is the usb interface which can be used to read and query the scales. (set it up as a 'serial modem device' i have a driver/setup inf to do it for M$ windows )
just save as 'anyname'.inf and point the win pc at it when u plug the scales in and comes up as unknown serial device.

I got a pair of Brecknell's of ebay for 60 pounds. They measure to 20g increments.
I have then under my 38L tun. You can also override the auto off which is important.
