Used my newest piece of kit yesterday, a bottling stick with a valve at the bottom as these are supposed to help !!
I abandoned it after the second bottle as it really fizzed out untill there was enough beer in the bottle to totaly immerse the end. My concern was that the fizzing was adding lots of air, so I went back to the old syphon tube with tap.
Is the stick a problem! or am I doing something wrong?
Also why are the taps on bins and barrels different sizes and anything you want to put on the other end to small resulting Heath Robinson adapters to get over the problem
Bottling stick
Hi Glug, perhaps this would help with your tubing problems. It's supposed to fit any size tube to any other size:

I spotted it the other day and am thinking of getting one myself.

Here are my tips:
1) Hold the bottle so there is not a large drop from the level of the beer in the bottling vessel to the bottom of the bottle. There will be less pressure on the beer coming through the valve. Be careful, however not to lift the bottom of the stick above the beer level or the beer will run back into the bottling vessel.
2) Hold the stick so the valve is in the neck of the bottle and tilt it until the tip of the stopper nudges the side of the neck letting a small amount of beer through. Let this trickle down the inside of the bottle until there is enough in the bottom to submerge the valve.
I normally start by priming the bottling stick by placing it into a sanitised glass or jug full blast until the tube is full of beer. I then use it for my final SG reading before leisurely drinking it whilst I finish bottling

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ May 14 2006, 10:09 PM)Are you bottling from a barrel Glug
No from a fermenter fitted with a tap, I also had various size tubes fitted inside each other and sealed with gaffer tape, I think "tribs" tip about reducing the pressure is probably the way to go, but I will need to tidy up the pipe work though.
Thanks.
