Fancy :)

Just wondering, are they not pressurise-able as it's a flat rather than domed lid?

No idea of the clamp arrangement or gasket but it wouldn't matter if it were a dome or flat.

Hmmmm, looks like a PITA to clean. I suppose you could dunk it in your kettle for 10 mins.

I'd have one without the coil though.

IMO direct cooling / heating is the way to go

IMO again,

Hook up a maxi + heat source to the coil + STC = will provide you with everything you need to control a fermentation, not only are you measuring the beer directly but also controlling it directly.

Next step "up" from a fridge.

The builds are on here

Why did you not ask the fabricator to add on an external cooling panel? there would be a lot less involved with cleaning in between the coils.

And then have a look through this monster thread

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45212&hilit=coil+willis&start=180

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45212&hilit=coil+willis&start=135

Basically I have two conicals, 1 large, 1 small, both have internal coils, both controlled via the Maxi / Heat route, all ending up with shiny madness with the stainless maxi glycol chiller unit.

Regarding the debate of a jacket or coil..........

This is based on the Home Brew Market so the smaller conical.

There has I believe (to my knowledge) only a couple of manufactures that has made a cooling jacket for a conical, these being Willis viewtopic.php?f=6&t=61967&hilit=+willis and the More Beer ones.

I let you read the Willis thread and the More Beer things are expensive.

So that then leaves you with the option of getting one reto-fitted or made from scratch, which money willing anything is possible.

So why not use an internal coil mounted through the lid? from a sales point of view you can then just sell the conical with a range of lid options for those who want to use a fridge to those who choose to a maxi set up to those who choose to do something else (coil wrapped on the outside like a jacket).

Is the coil a difficult thing to clean? simple answer is NO & if anyone struggles cleaning that one it would suggest that you go back & revisit the basic principals of cleaning. Again this is for a smallish homebrew conical NOT a large industrial effort.

Neither, I am just saying cleaning a coil is as straight forward as cleaning any other type or piece of equipment.

With this design, as it is mounted in the lid it makes the process even easier.

Some members prefer not to have an additional piece of equipment to clean which is fair enough. If my post has offended anyone, it wasn't meant to.

A more worthy debate (rather than cleaning) would be, which is the better form of control for a small(ish) homebrew vessel 1) a coil 2) a jacket

I think we can debate what we like on a public forum....

The problem I have is the coil surfaces are touching with no obvious gap between them.

I work within the food manufacturing industry and that is a fundamental hygiene requirement.
